The Berlin Philharmonic has experienced a consistent growth since World War II. Wilhelm Furtwangler and Herbert von Karajan made the Berlin ensemble a product of their own styles. Claudio Abbado has rebuilt more than half the orchestra with young players from all over the world. I think their maturity has now stabilized the Berlin sound enough that it will continue to flourish for years to come.
